Anti-Israel activists are planning another protest outside the Bellevue home of Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) on Tuesday night, just days after the Bellevue City Council voted to ban targeted residential demonstrations.

According to a social media post circulating online, activists are organizing a 7 pm press conference and demonstration outside Smith’s residence before the city’s newly passed ordinance takes effect in 30 days.

The event is reportedly being promoted by activists tied to the Democratic Socialists of America and other anti-Israel groups that have repeatedly targeted Smith over his support for Israel following the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks.

The planned gathering comes after Bellevue city leaders voted 6-1 this week to approve Ordinance 6917, which prohibits groups of three or more people from conducting protests specifically targeting private residences. The ordinance was passed after years of escalating demonstrations outside Smith’s home, including late-night protests, vandalism, bullhorns used in the early morning hours, and reports of flags being burned in his driveway.

Opponents of the ordinance argued during Tuesday’s council meeting that the measure infringes on First Amendment rights, while supporters said the demonstrations had become threatening and disruptive to surrounding neighborhoods.

“I have witnessed the mobs that come up to his house,” one resident told the council before the vote. “They intimidate the neighborhood, they wake you up in the middle of the night with bullhorns.”

The latest planned protest highlights the growing tensions surrounding Smith’s reelection campaign and the congressional challenge launched by former Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, a self-described Marxist whose political network has repeatedly clashed with the longtime Democrat.

Sawant-aligned activists were involved in last year’s chaotic town hall disruption at Renton Technical College, where anti-Israel protesters stormed the stage during a Smith event. Three protesters were later arrested for trespassing after refusing to leave.

The incident escalated further when Smith revealed one of his young female staffers had been physically assaulted during the confrontation. Renton police later arrested Sawant’s husband, Calvin Priest, after investigators alleged he shoved and injured the 22-year-old staff member while protesters forced their way into the venue.
