Ari Hoffman welcomes Washington State GOP Chairman and Rep. Jim Walsh to break down the madness of pre-filed bills in Olympia.
Top highlight: Democrats rushed through a new sales tax on services (including IT support) that accidentally slams public schools, food banks, and nonprofits — organizations already running on razor-thin margins. As Walsh warned at the time, schools are now forced to send money right back to the state they just received. His new bill offers the cleanest fix: simply exempt schools and qualified nonprofits. “I don’t care who gets the credit — steal the bill if you want — just fix the problem,” Walsh says.
The guys also look ahead to going on offense in 2026. With three citizen initiatives still gathering signatures until year-end (restoring parental rights, keeping boys out of girls’ sports, and requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote), Walsh says qualifying even one or two would force Democrats to deal with common-sense priorities or send them straight to voters in November.
A candid, no-spin conversation about taxes, budget messes, and how Republicans plan to seize the agenda in a legislature dominated by the left. Another classic Ari Hoffman Show segment you’ll want to hear.
