Washington State Republican Party Chair Jim Walsh joined The Morning Ride with an update on IL 26-126, an initiative that would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote. With the signature deadline in early January, Walsh says the campaign is refocusing after the fall election cycle.
Conservative activist Scott Pressler has been in Washington to boost awareness, part of a West Coast push for stronger voter-ID standards. Walsh argues that Washington’s automatic voter registration and access to driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants undermine confidence in elections.
IL 26-126 is one of three conservative-backed initiatives currently gathering signatures. Walsh says strengthening voter-ID rules would help clean up voter rolls, restore trust, and motivate turnout if the measure reaches the 2026 ballot.
