Signature Gatherers Report Harassment – The Morning Ride Speaks With A Victim

Lets Go Washington

On The Morning Ride with Phil Vandervort, Let’s Go Washington signature gatherer Andre Scott shared firsthand accounts of harassment and intimidation while collecting signatures for two statewide initiatives — one on parental notification in schools and another on protecting girls’ sports. Scott said he faces verbal or physical interference “three to four times a day,” describing encounters where people have shouted insults or tried to damage petitions. He recalled one recent confrontation where a man followed and yelled at him until Scott documented the incident with a photo. Governor Bob Ferguson recently issued a brief statement saying “there is no place for political violence in our democracy,” encouraging victims to report harassment — a response that Vandervort called “tepid” given the repeated reports of interference. Despite the hostility, Scott said the public response has been largely positive, with many apologizing for the behavior of others and more police monitoring areas where petitioners work. He noted that recent media coverage has actually brought more supporters out to sign. The Let’s Go Washington campaign continues gathering signatures through the end of the year to qualify both initiatives for the 2026 ballot.
