Auto Accidents And Traffic Are Down And the Media Can’t Figure Out Why

Traffic

Auto accidents in major cities like Los Angeles and New York are down by 10% this year — and the media is baffled. Headlines from mainstream outlets are asking “why” with a straight face, while ignoring the glaring, politically inconvenient reality staring them in the face.

The satire site Not the Bee — the real-news offshoot of the Babylon Bee — highlighted the absurdity this week by compiling social media reactions to a headline that read: Auto accidents are down 10% in Los Angeles and New York this year for some reason. A shrug emoji accompanied the piece, emphasizing the cluelessness of those refusing to acknowledge what’s changed.

Some media outlets blame “lighter traffic.” Others suggest high gas prices are pushing people toward mass transit. But if that were true, we’d see a spike in transit ridership. That hasn’t happened.

So what has changed?

Let’s spell it out: Fewer people are on the roads in these cities — especially undocumented immigrants. Why? Because enforcement is working. Reports indicate over 1 million illegal immigrants have self-deported, and federal agencies are quietly deporting others. That inevitably means fewer cars on the road and, yes, fewer accidents.

This isn’t about claiming immigrants can’t drive. It’s about patterns — patterns the media and progressive politicians refuse to acknowledge. Consider recent local arrests by ICE Seattle, shared directly on their public feed:

  • Roberto Diaz Osario, a Mexican citizen, was convicted of reckless driving, indecent exposure, DUI (twice), and more.

  • Juan Lopez, a Guatemalan citizen, was arrested in Yakima for driving with a suspended license.

  • David Juarez Cortez, another Mexican national, was charged with DUI, reckless driving, ID theft, and hit and run.

  • Manjat Singh, an Indian citizen, with a rap sheet including robbery, theft, impersonation, and DUI.

This isn’t cherry-picking. This is a trend. DUI, reckless driving, no license, no insurance — again and again.

You want to know why insurance rates are so high in sanctuary states like Washington? It’s because you’re far more likely to be hit by someone who’s here illegally, unlicensed, and uninsured.

I know this firsthand.

Years ago, I was driving my then four-year-old son to school in my beloved Dodge Charger. At an uncontrolled intersection, an F-150 barreled into the driver’s side of my car at over 60 miles per hour. The impact was so intense it ripped the wheels from the car and shoved it up onto a neighbor’s lawn. If it weren’t for a large rock and the car’s airbags, we might not have made it.

By some miracle, I was able to climb out and get my son out of his car seat. EMTs arrived and were shocked that I survived. I dislocated ribs and went through months of physical therapy. And what did we learn? The driver was an illegal immigrant, driving a company truck, without proper insurance. I was the one who paid the price — literally and physically.

And I’m not alone. Every one of you probably has a similar story — T-boned, rear-ended, no insurance. We all know someone.

Yet the left keeps feeding us sob stories. Just look at a recent Olympian article about a Lacey mechanic and organic farmer allegedly “abducted” by ICE. The story came straight from a GoFundMe page with zero verification. His name? “Paco.” The photo? 97% likely generated by AI. The truth? His real name is Youssef Zarate Borbon, a Mexican national wanted for murder, apprehended by Homeland Security and U.S. Marshals.

Let that sink in.

The Olympian ran with a story based on AI images and anonymous organizers, all without verification. All to protect their anti-Trump narrative. It was only after investigative journalist Brandi Kruse and her producer Nicole dug deeper that the truth came out. Unsurprisingly, the GoFundMe has since been taken down.

Here’s the reality: crime, including traffic crime, is going down not because of local policy, but because of federal enforcement. For years, progressive “Vision Zero” policies in places like Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York have failed. Traffic fatalities and accidents only went up.

Now, with Donald Trump back in office and cracking down on illegal immigration, we’re finally seeing change. And yet, local Democrats will be the first to take a victory lap — claiming their failed policies worked.

They won’t give credit to the real cause: a federal crackdown on illegal alien criminals. Because the truth undermines their narrative. The truth is this: someone who’s willing to break the law to enter this country is more likely to break laws once here. Driving drunk? No big deal. No license? Who cares? No insurance? That’s your problem, not theirs.

And we, the legal citizens, are the ones left paying higher insurance rates. We’re the ones getting hit. We’re the ones losing businesses, lives, and livelihoods — while the politicians cheerlead for the criminals and attack the people trying to protect us.

So next time you hear about declining accident rates or crime stats, ask yourself what’s really changed.

It’s not “lighter traffic.”

It’s not “climate-friendly infrastructure.”

It’s not “community-led safety.”

It’s federal enforcement.

And it’s working — no matter how hard the media tries to pretend they “don’t know why.”
