Salvation Army NW, which serves King County, tells KVI host of The Morning Ride, Phil Vandervort, that fundraising for the annual Red Kettle Luncheon is behind its pace to reach a $525,000 goal for 2025.
Lt. Col. Cindy Foley tells KVI, “Salvation Army helped over 71,000 people just in King County alone last year, including getting 3,400 families into permanent housing. And to do that, we need to raise the funds to keep our 18 programs just in King County operating and continue this life-changing work. ”

Many people think of The Salvation Army’s bell ringers and Red Kettles during the holiday season, but few are aware of the organization’s role in serving those experiencing homelessness and the effects of poverty throughout the year. With 14 locations in King County, including community centers, shelters, addiction recovery, and domestic violence programs, Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to provide help and hope through services like financial assistance, substance abuse and rehabilitation programs, after-school programs, emergency shelter for children and families.
The Morning Ride, heard weekday mornings from 6-9 on Talk Radio 570 KVI and 101.5 FM HD3, is hosted by Phil Vandervort.
