With four days remaining in the Washington Legislative session, Senate Republican Leader, John Braun, tells KVI host John Carlson, “I think the momentum’s with Republicans right now. ”

Braun points to the status of three initiatives to the Legislature that deal with personal income tax, requiring parental notification for gender identity in school settings and rolling back restrictions on when police can chase criminal suspects in vehicles which all received Legislative hearings by majority Democrats last week (February 27th and 28th, 2024).

“The big, big win I think coming up in the next day or two,” Braun predicted, “is I have every reason to believe that at least three of the initiatives to the Legislature (I-2111, I-2081 and I-2113) are going to come up for a vote.  And I have every reason to believe they will pass resoundingly off the floor of the House and Senate. And in doing so will become law 90 days thereafter.”

These three initiatives were approved to the Legislature by the Washington Secretary of State’s office after a signature gathering petition campaign in 2023 that was coordinated by financial backer Brian Heywood’s group, Let’s Go Washington, which paid signature gatherers.

Three other statewide initiatives coordinated by Let’s Go Washington are currently slated to go to the voters on the November 5th, 2024 general election ballot. Those initiatives are I-2117, I -2124, and I-2109, which deal with the ‘cap and invest’ carbon permit auction price for gasoline and natural gas, an opt out of the Long Term Care payroll tax and the capital gains income tax, respectively.
