Remembering Steve Pool, 1953-2023

Steve Pool KOMO 4 chief meteorologist

KVI’s John Carlson and KOMO 4 chief meteorologist, Shannon O’Donnell, pay tribute to Seattle broadcasting legend, Steve Pool, who passed away last week at age 70 after suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. Pool graduated from Tyee High School in SeaTac, WA and then from The University of Washington in 1977. After graduation from UW, Pool was hired by KOMO 4 as a reporter and anchor. When meteorologist Ray Ramsey retired in 1984, Pool studied with University of Washington Atmospheric Sciences professor, Cliff Mass, and became KOMO 4’s chief meteorologist until he retired in 2019. Pool was deeply involved in charity and community work throughout his life in Seattle.

O’Donnell was an intern for Pool in 1994 and eventually worked alongside Pool as a colleague in 2009 at KOMO. O’Donnell shares some of the techniques and tips she learned from Pool with the KVI listeners–ones that she still uses today on her evening weather forecasts.
