Circumhorizontal arc over Spokane 6/2/06

Rare event caused by sunlight passing through high altitude rotating ice crystals. Occurs under special conditions--near midday, around the summer solstice, and mid latitudes. This lasted at least an hour, photographed on Sunset Hill west of downtown Spokane. More info on this "rainbow" can be found at the Atmospheric Optics web site http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/chaform.htm
