My dear friends Tor and Mandy Bailey have been faced with the most hear wrenching decision a parent could possibly make, to separate their conjoined twin girls who share the same heart and liver. They were told not to expect these precious little babies to live past one week old and now two years later the girls are still with us. There is limited time for the separation to even be possible and without it the girls will die.
The Bailey's live in Arizona and have 6 children all in. Tor started a mortgage company a few years ago and with the economic down turn is having a tough time making ends meet. Mandy is a stay at home mom caring for her children with ages ranging from 10 years to 6 months old. Emma and Taylor, the twin girls, require a lot of assistance and only a few months ago just took their first steps with the aid of a specialized walker. Everything about their care is very expensive. They require a lot of additional help from specialist. It’s very difficult because not many specialists have worked with conjoined twins but the girls are very willing and able to make great leaps of improvement. These girls are truly amazing.
To get the best medical help they can get, they fly to Children’s Regional Hospital in Seattle Washington for doctor visits. As of right now Emma is in critical need of a surgery that will prevent some of the damage that is currently being done to her side of their heart. If this surgery is not successful the separation will not even be possible. Without being separated Emma will die first a very slow death being suffocated by her own heart and then eventually Taylor will have the same fate. As a parent of twins myself; the possibility of something like this happening to my children is unimaginable. The anguish these parents go through on a daily basis is something no parent should ever go through. The Bailey’s are strong in faith and love for one another and keep an optimistic outlook.
This family has been featured on Discovery healthy, Two sisters, One heart and the Today show. I ask that you please help this family in any way possible. I personally know no one more deserving of an opportunity at survival and life as these sweet babies.
Please help this family.
