88-year-old Army veteran, Delbert “Shorty” Belton, was attacked and beaten by two suspects but died from his injuries. One 16-year-old suspect is in custody but another suspect remains on the run from police. Two men attacked Belton, who survived injury in the Battle of Okinawa, in the parking lot of an Eagles hall just off North Division in Spokane where Belton had stopped to join friends to play pool. He died less than a day later from his injuries. John Carlson begins the coverage of this sickening and senseless killing that has many of the same circumstances as the Oklahoma drive-by killing of an Australian college student, Chris Lane, who was out jogging 1 week ago.
