1/10/13 How to stop mass shootings
The head of Washington Ceasefire said yesterday that in the last 30 years, there have been 62 mass shootings in the United States, and not one has been stopped by a private citizen with a gun.
But just last month, a shooter at a shopping mall near Portland was stopped when he saw a customer with a conceal-carry permit aiming his gun at him. The shooter took his own life, and the violence stopped.
Another rampage shooting was cut short last month in San Antonio by an armed, off duty cop. In Nevada four years ago, a man opened fire in a crowded restaurant and was killed by another citizen with a conceal-carry permit.
I could give a lot more examples where legally armed citizens took down shooters who were intent on shooting people at random. So why didn’t the head of Washington Ceasefire acknowledge this? Because he was talking only about mass shootings where four or more people were killed, rather than those that were stopped before then.
But isn’t that the idea?
