Carlson Commentary: Tax Reform a Whole New Way

But they didn’t.  The Income Tax Initiative lost by 33 percentage points.

Now, several other states are thinking of tax reform too – either by lowering their income taxes, like
Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Indiana, or even eliminating the income tax and replacing it with a sales tax, which is what the Governors of Nebraska and Louisiana want to do.   In other words, they want a tax system like ours.

How come?  Because, according to the Wall Street Journal, states that tax consumption rather than income have better economies.   One example might be our next-door neighbor, Oregon, has an income tax but no sales tax.  And their unemployment has been persistently higher than ours since the economy went south.    Our voters, two years ago, were ahead of the rest of the country.
