WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. -- A 23-year-old man is under arrest after hitting a bicyclist with his truck on Whidbey Island Saturday.

Investigators say a 56-year-old woman was cycling along Bakken Road when the truck pulled in front of the cyclist while turning into a driveway.

The accident occurred in front of Christie Petry's house around 7:30 p.m. Petry and her sister dashed down to the road with a jack and wood to try and help free the trapped woman.

"It kinda looked like she had flipped and went underneath the car somehow," Petry said.

Petry and her sister where able to free the woman and her bike from under the truck.

"Obviously I was a little worked up and I don't even know. You don't think twice about something like that, you just immediately go to help," Petry said.

The bicyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver told investigators he had been drinking, and is under investigation for possible vehicular assault.
